Jin Araya

The White Wolf of Eorzea

 Age: 26-33  Height:  190cm
 Gender: Male   CV.  Daisuke Ono

Jin Araya is the now-retired Warrior of Light. Having sacrificed his voice to save the world, he became a ghost of himself. He'd gone from a charismatic & beloved hero, to a now jaded and spent traveller.

BACKGROUND:

Jin and Rei grew up in a Gridanian orphanage, The Oak Atrium. As far as they know: Rivair, their father, had abandoned them–having left his post in the Wood Wailers seeking to become an adventurer. Their mother is unknown–but due to their likeness of the hated miqo’te, beauty and long curved ears–they were rumored to be the spawn of Succubi. (And especially due to Rivair’s bad reputation, and later their own. They seem to be half-hyur, but their mother is unknown to them entirely.

They were known to be ‘troublemakers’. Rei was abrasive, rude and short-tempered. Jin was deceitful, hard to read and started fights. Although, in reality–they were prone to defending their fellow friends who’d been harassed for their race. They grew up to the age of 18 living this way, all the while resenting their father–who’d become more lauded and loved for his philanthropic work, whilst they suffered. And while the staff of the orphanage didn’t hurt them, they didn’t stop the cruelties they faced either. The only one that truly respected them, cared for them and cultivated in them a love for knowledge and the world was their teacher–an Elezen woman named Miss Lorraine.

The siblings later attempt to make an honest living, having grown too old to stay in the orphanage any longer. They both employed themselves in the White Wolves, a section of the Gridanian military under God’s Quiver, and took up crafting. They were deployed during Garlemald’s attempt to take Eorzea. Jin had briefly worked under Rivair, though Rivair didn’t quite recognize him. Rei was deployed elsewhere. They were all separated during the Fall of Dalamud. When Louisoix casted his spell, █████ interfered, Rivair’s existence was wiped–and all memories of Rei and Jin in all people were erased.

When Jin awoke, he realized no one in Gridania remembered him, his father or his sister–not those in the atrium, not his lovers, not his teachers, no one. Confused, and wanting to seek the truth of what happened–he heads towards Ul’dah, in the direction of the Scions.

PERSONALITY:

Keywords: Empty / “Lacking”, Resolute, Megalomaniac

Exterior:

A shallow and incredibly selfish man. He’d been known for his lax, hedonistic lifestyle. Eat, work, fuck, sleep. He’d long been content to aim his lifestyle at only eye-level. He vowed to not be like his father. He wouldn’t seek glory, instead maintain a controllable and enjoyable lifestyle. It doesn’t matter what other factors he tramples on as long as he can keep his head.

Despite himself, he has long studied how to properly present himself in a way that appeals. When he realized the cards he was dealt with were not enough, he ‘added more cards’. He’d studied beyond what he had to, he commits to memory the demeanor of those he meets – and analyzes what best to do in every scenario – even if, at heart, he truly doesn’t get it.

He’d developed a charming, alluring persona – prone to flirting and hopping from bed to bed. The hearts he’d broken are far more plentiful than the ones he left intact though. He is incapable of truly loving someone, but he chooses to play along with those who fall for him–and is quick to disappoint them.

Interior:

Jin, at heart, wants to love the cruel world he lives in. Despite everything it had done to him, he cannot help but believe in the vision his teacher believed in–in the world he lived in brief moments with his sister. He wants to respect this world, in a way his father did not.

Despite his distaste for heroics, he is prone to it regardless–in every victim he sees himself. If there is a better path, he must force it–for better or for worse.

His nature is capricious and hard to predict. In an effort to protect, he has often become cruel. He assumes what is better for people, and intends on enforcing his beliefs and suppositions with power.

TRIVIA:

  • His core character concept is: “A villain forced to become a hero”.
  • His main classes are Dark Knight, Samurai and Sage respectively.
  • He drew heavy inspiration from Gintoki Sakata (Gintama), Sylvain Gautier (Fire Emblem), Belial (Granblue Fantasy) & Archer Emiya (Fate Series).
  • After the events of Endwalker, he is mute. He suffered a grievous wound to his throat, rupturing his vocal cords. Whether or not he can recover and speak again remains to be seen.
  • I have a plushie of him.
